Tips for Cleaning Suede Boots and Shoes
The old adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” really applies when it comes to caring for your suede shoes and boots.
One of the first things you must do when you bring your brand new suede shoes home is to treat it with a water repelling spray. If it’s already too late for that, then be sure to do it for your next pair of shoes.
For the time being, listed here are a few suggestions to get your favorite suede boots and shoes with stains already cleaned.
Keep in mind to first test any treatment or product on a small inconspicuous area before tackling a large stain, and only use products designed specifically for the material of the footwear (suede, nubuck, smooth leather, etc.).
For heavy stains on suede footwear, use a suede cleaning block (also called a suede eraser). These items will crumble as you rub them throughout the surface from the footwear, and are great for getting rid of even deeply embedded dirt.
Right after cleaning, the nap of your suede could be restored by using a suede brush. The bristles of suede brushes are generally produced from brass, and often you are able to find both the cleaning block and also the brush as a cleaning kit.
